Robert L. Gerbel, CPA
President & Founder/Managing Director/Shareholder
Robert Gerbel graduated from Michigan State University in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and immediately began his career at the accounting firm that would one day become Plante Moran. At the encouragement of his wife Carol, he founded Gerbel & Company in 1968 on the premise of providing accurate and reliable accounting services. Robert attributes Gerbel & Company’s success to his staff of 4 CPAs, 2 accountants and 4 support staff who only provide the best for their clients. With more than 50 years of experience in the accounting industry, Robert Gerbel is dedicated to integrity and professionalism in all that he does. Robert specializes in auditing and individual finances, as well as corporate, estate, trust and gift taxes. Robert also supports and volunteers time to many community events and charities, especially the St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation, where he and his wife fund the Believe in Yourself Scholarship.
Brian Wisneski, CPA
Brian Wisneski holds his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ferris State University. He joined Gerbel & Company in 1987 as a staff accountant, and is currently a shareholder. He is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of CPAs, and the Southwest Michigan chapter of BNI. Brian specializes in individual and corporate income taxes, as well as auditing. He has been married to his wife Tammy for 23 years and they have two daughters, one of whom is attending Grand Valley State University, the other of whom is attending Ferris State University.
Ryan obtained his bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Ferris State University in 2014. Prior to joining Gerbel & Company, P.C., he worked in the private accounting sector. He is currently pursuing his CPA license and plans to sit for the exam in the near future. Over the last seven years, Ryan has volunteered as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program by preparing taxes for low income families and hopes to continue. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Allison joined Gerbel and Company, P.C. in May 2016. She received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Grand Valley State University in 2015, and is currently working on obtaining her CPA license. After finishing her CPA, she plans to earn her Masters of Business Administration. In her spare time, Allison enjoys being outside, playing soccer, and time with family and friends.
James Mihalik joined Gerbel and Company, P.C. in February 2016. He received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Purdue University – North Central and continued on there to earn his MBA focused in Accounting. He is currently working on obtaining his CPA license. When he isn’t working, he enjoys being outside and focusing on his photography.
Sarah joined Gerbel and Company, P.C. in September 2016. She received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Purdue University in 2015, and is currently working on Masters of Business Administration degree from Indiana University – South Bend. After that, she plans to obtain her CPA license. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys road trips, going to the movies and spending time with family and friends.
Sam joined Gerbel & Company, P.C. in January 2017. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the AACSB accredited Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics at Indiana University. Prior to joining Gerbel & Company, Sam worked in the banking and public accounting industries. He is currently pursuing his Masters of Business Administration with an Accounting Cognate from the ACBSP accredited Liberty University with intentions to sit for the CPA exam in the near future. When Sam is not working, he enjoys spending time outdoors in beautiful St. Joseph as well as volunteering in the local community.
Marcia Graham joined Gerbel & Company in November of 1969. Marcia is the firm administrator and Robert Gerbel’s assistant. She manages client bookkeeping and payroll tax returns, and assists clients with payroll tax questions and e-filing. Marcia is also in charge of the support staff. She is a graduate of St. Joseph High School and took accounting classes at Lake Michigan College. Prior to working for Gerbel & Company, Marcia worked at Glenlord Lumber Company. Marcia resides in St. Joseph and enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading in her pool, and entertaining.
Bonnie joined the support staff at Gerbel & Company in 1981. She performs a variety of functions including bookkeeping, payroll and payroll taxes. She also duplicates and assembles financial reports and tax returns. She graduated from New Troy High School and took classes at Lake Michigan College. Her previous work experience includes the Kovtan & Company firm, which was later purchased by Gerbel & Company. Bonnie resides in Bridgman on her farm and enjoys both flower and vegetable gardening. She is co-superintendent of the flower building at the Berrien County Youth Fair and enjoys polka dancing and spending time with friends and family.
Cindy joined Gerbel & Company in 2002 and has a variety of administrative duties, including greeting clients with a smile as they walk through the door. She provides bookkeeping and payroll services in addition to assisting with financial reports. Cindy attended Lake Michigan College, studying business administration. Her previous work experience includes customer service for a manufacturing company and document control at DC Cook Nuclear Power Plant. In her free time, Cindy enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling throughout the United States.
Julie joined the support staff at Gerbel & Company in 2015. Her primary areas of work include bookkeeping, proofreading, internal timekeeping and billing. She also keeps the internal tax library updated. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Western Michigan University and her master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan. Her previous work experience includes serving as a project coordinator for the Berrien County Health Department as well as teaching at First Church of God Preschool. Julie resides in Coloma and enjoys camping, hiking and playing tennis.
